FedEx Can Kiss My Ass

.
FedEx/Kinkos has actively resisted providing benefits to gay families, even in the few states where gay people can marry. In a letter to a legally married employee in Massachusetts, FedEx actually invokes the Defense of Marriage Act to justify why it won’t provide benefits to its LGBT employees’ families in Massachusetts!
.
"We have a federally regulated health insurance plan and since the federal government defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman we are free to ignore your marriage in the provision of employee benefits."
.
Yes that read, "FREE TO IGNORE YOUR MARRIAGE".
.
First of all, Massachusetts is one of two states that allows marriage for gay and lesbian residents. If FedEx feels it can ignore the laws of Massachusetts, than maybe it's time for that state to request that FedEx either follow it laws or to move ALL of its business out of its state. FedEx should also be told that none of there trucks can cross into the state and use their highways.
.
Secondly, although the federal Defense of Marriage Act is a hate-filled, gay-bashing, Civil Rights Stripping piece of garbage legislation, it does not allow companies to ignore state laws concerning employee benefits. Furthermore, being federally regulated, does not have anything to do with who receives the insurance. The government regulates insurance on benefits, NOT the benefactors.
.
If they feel that they are free to ignore our marriages,
then we are free to ignore their business.
Money speaks louder than words,
so take your business elsewhere.
.
.
UPS provides benefits for all of their employees and received a score of 100 from the HRC concerning companies that have good records in equality for the GLBT Community.
