A Blessing: Not a Damnation

Jay Brannan - "goddamned"
I read a review of this album on another site. I clicked on a video and listened for about 20 seconds and immediately went and found this album. Jay Brannan is a gay singer and songwriter who actually writes about being gay. His songs are filled with longing, love and truth. His songwriting style reminds me of Tracy Chapman. He is a storyteller. The kind that hooks you. There are many wonders on this album, but the one that I have played over and over is "Can't Have It All".
.
I wish you were around when I was in my teens and early 20's. I could have used a friend like you back then.
.
His songs do contain the occasional swear word, so to all you prudes out there, F#6K Off.
.
Below is the music player & lyrics for "Can't Have It All."

Can’t Have It All - Jay Brannan

Applying moisturizer in the microwave window
For the tenth time, he should've called me an hour ago
Would he be here with flowers if I lived in Arizona?
They say there’s no love left in the big cities, it’s kinda true
I guess you’ll find me coming soon to a small town near you
I’ll sell my guitar so i can by myself a tractor
.
Fuck this, this can’t be my life
I moisturized ten times tonight
Why can’t I sit down and write,
Bring this question to light?
Do you want a lover,
Or do you want a life?
One hand or the other,
The butter or the bread knife?
Do you choose winter, spring, summer, or fall?
It’s driving me crazy
That I can’t have it all
,
If these walls could talk,
They’d probably cry out for mercy
‘til I’m outlined in chalk,
I’ll be romantically thirsty
So I drink and drink from the proverbial time sink
,
Fuck this, this can’t be my life
Tears flowing in full force tonight
Why can’t i sit down and write,
Bring this question to light?
Do you want a lover,
Or do you want a life?
One hand or the other,
The butter or the bread knife?
Do you choose winter, spring, summer, or fall?
It’s driving me crazy
That I can’t have it all
,
Do we hold the future,
Or does it come in peace?
And if it’s in my hands,
Are you sure it should be in brittle hands like these?
Life, love, and the pursuit of
All the things they promised me
Can I have all of the above?
Are the best things in life truly free?
,
Do you want a lover,
Or do you want a life?
One hand or the other,
The butter or the bread knife?
Do you choose winter, spring, summer, or fall?
It’s driving me crazy
That I can’t have it all

Dame Helen Mirren @ 63

British Actress Dame Helen Mirren was fantastic as Queen Elizabeth and deserved the Oscar two years ago. I actually saw the trailer for the movie in the summer and said, "She just won the Oscar" I have always loved her work and think she is quite smart and funny on the talk shows. Last week she was on "Martha" and it was incredible. She was correcting Martha on planting flowers and gardening and had her all flustered. It was "FANTASTIC" great television.

She turns 63 this week. Today, on the Internet are pictures of Helen on vacation in a bikini. She looks better than most women half her age.

Helen Mirren as "The Queen"

Helen Mirren as "The Goddess"
.
All I can say is "Damn!"
.
Update:
I have officially added Helen Mirren to the list of people who are up for "Silver Platterist of the Year" simply for rocking the bikini body at 63. Way to go.

Unite The Triforce & Save Hyrule

I found the original "The Legend Of Zelda" online and have been re-addicted. It took me a while to get used to using the keyboard instead of a controller, but I have managed to get to level 7 so far.

The day I got this cartridge years ago, we played it for over 24 straight. The Nintendo machine was so hot that you could have fried an egg on it. We were afraid we were going to burn up the machine. What was the coolest part, was when we were finished we were delighted that there was a whole new adventure after the first one. This is a true classic in the game world.

Alert The Vatican

Angelina checks into a hospital in France.
The messiah twins are almost here.

Yesterday was such a bizarre day on the boob tube. I was flipping through the channels on the TV and stopped at E! for a few moments and there was "breaking news". With a banner named "Brangelina Watch" the poor announcer (I shall not call any one on E! a newsman or a reporter) was all giddy to report that Angelina had checked into the hospital. Could the "Wonder Twins" be here yet. They showed a clip of a press conference with her OB/GYN. All of the press were shouting questions in French. It was beyond surreal. Alas the new messiahs have not been born yet. I chuckled for a few seconds and then switched channels again.

Later in the day I had the TV on NBC (I think) and there was a Special Bulletin that interrupted the program. The report was about the hostages in Columbia. I was working on laundry and was really just outta of earshot to get the whole story clear.

What the reporter said:
"President Bush had been on the phone with the President of Columbia to discuss the rescue mission."

What played in my head:
"President Bush had been on the phone with the President of France to discuss Angelina's progress."

I had to step back and look at the TV for a second and laughed my head off.

They way the entertainment "News" programs are acting, I look for the country to declare a national holiday on the day of the babies birth.

FYI: The Angelina photo above was taken by: Annie Leibovitz.

.
Rosie, you lucked out. If I had a good picture of you, your face would have been on this photo. HA

A New Toy: www.wordle.net

Lyrics for Aimee Mann's "4th Of July"

I discovered a new website called: www.wordle.net. It has a application where you can submit a list of words and make a word collage, which you can print out. You could use it to make scrap book backgrounds or print it out for tshirts. You can do any kind of list or sayings. There is a gallery where you can look at other people's wordles and get lots of ideas. On the gallery were: poems, bible verses, lists of names to make a wordle family tree and many other examples. I have been doing song lyrics. You can change the fonts, colors and layouts. The only draw back is: that if you want to save it to your own computer it is a real stinking pain. Go to FAQ to read about how to save it.
It is totally free, easy to use and very addictive. I have spent hours upon hours just messing around with it. FYI: my wordles that are saved in the gallery are under the name: "amusingmav".
